Ron,
A 6' finish mower should not be a problem with your 8N, unless you're trying to drag it through some 3 foot grass or something. Same with a brushhog. The 8N will handle a 6' depending on what you're cutting. If you're truly not developing the HP you should, the tuneup is a good place to begin. How does it run with no attachments? Can you get 'er moving in 4th and take it to full throttle without coughing, missing etc?

If you're talking about a 6 foot "Bushhog" type rotary mower, there's no way in the world it will ever pull it. You'd need about 60 HP, which is about 3 times what you got.

Ron,

Several things you can look at. I had 2 plugs completely fouled and not firing. There was no noticable miss, just no power.

1. Check for fouled plugs.

2. Check the firing order, 1243 CCW. #1 plug is at the front of the engine towards raditor. The distributor should have numbers on it. #1 is upper left looking from front. Bottom left is #2, bottom right is #4, and top right is #3.

3. Make sure the governor is working.

4. Check compression, both dry and wet. 90PSI minimum with less than 10% difference across cylinders.

5. Make sure the plug wires are solid core and not carbon core (rsistor).

These are starting points. Post back with results for more info.

Danny

Get a manual for it if you don’t have one and give it a thorough tune-up. IF that doesn’t fix it you have a solid base to start from.
