Greetings everyone, I know this is the 9N,2N,8N forum and I have an 8n, however; I am seeking information on a massey ferguson model 20 industrial tractor. I have been looking to purchase a 70's model ford 3000 to compliment my 8N but have not found one to suit me yet. A man near my home has a 1974 MF model 20 industrial tractor for sale. I stopped and looked at it today just out of curiosity and I was very impressed with the tractor. It has a 3 cylinder perkins diesel engine with power stirring and a hi lo trans with a shuttle shift. It has a heavy non adjustable front axle and a 2 speed live PTO. It does not have a FEL on it. The only thing I did not like about the tractor was the yellow color. The info I have found so far on this tractor is it is a beefed up 135. I never thought I would consider buying a massey ferguson but after looking at this tractor I just might. The used ford 3000's I have looked at so far have not been in near as good of shape as the MF. I was prepared to pay a premium price for a ford 3000 in excellent shape but so far I have not found one. Any comments or advice appreciated. Thanks, Rick(Ga)

Last year one of the local JD dealers had a pair of Nasty Ferguson models 20's on his used lot. One was set up with a small backhoe and they both had front end loaders. These machines came from the same farm, where they were used for moving manure, been together all their lives and were traded for a new YEECCHH! JD. When I asked about the price of the backhoe, he smiled and said "I'll take 7500.00" I was speechless, turned and walked away. It took a couple of months to sell them but I heard he got 12000.00 for the pair. Go figure.

While I am a Ford fan with my NAA, there is nothing wrong with the MF tractors. My neighbor now owns tractors, 3 are Fords, 3 are MF and one is an IH. He feels they are similar performers with the exception that parts for the IH cost three times what similar parts cost for the Fords and MFs. The perkins diesel is a good performer. If I needed another tractor and came across one like you describe, I would buy it if the price was right.
