How do I Pull-start my 2N

It has been a few months since I tried to start my 2N. The last time I posted, I had very good spark, good fuel and weak compression. The opinions were mixed as to whether the tractor should start at all. One of the locals I've talked with told me to try pull starting it. How do I do this? I figured I'd put it in 2nd gear, pull it at about 3-4 MPH and pop the clutch. Is this the right way? If it doesn't start, will I hurt anything? The dirt road in front of my house is about 1/4 mile straight. How far can I pull it in gear if it doesn't start right away? If it does not start right away, how far should I pull it before I give up? I will check everything again before I try this (compression, fuel, spark, etc.), and probably post my condition and results later today. Any advise is welcomed.

Kaleco Auto Parts has a recoil type starter for Chevy V 8's that I think could easily be adapted to fit a four cylinder ford. Looks kind of like the one on a vertical shaft Briggs and Stratton but with a longer stronger pull cord. Although I have never bought one of these I get all of my muffler bearings from them and have had good service. www.kalecoauto.com

You might also just go ahead and convert it to twelve volts while you have it apart. Anything to avoid fixing the real problem--right?

Your mileage may vary

Is this the same tractor you're wife pushed in the pond?

Before today the pond had only been a threat. But my husband seemed to have forgotten this threat. He put me in the drivers seat of the truck pulling the tractor. When the pull-start failed I couldn't pass up the opportunity...Tractor already hooked up to the truck and me driving....Don't worry, Ron jumped off in time.

Tie the front end to a big tree.

Jack up the right rear wheel.

Wrap a big rope clocwise around the right rear wheel.

Tie the back bumper or the rear axle if you have a rubber or plastic bumber to the big rope free end.

Turn on the ignition pull out the choke turn on the gas and tell the wife to gun it!

(Be sure to video it)

Is that clockwise as you are sitting in the seat or facing the wheel standing on the ground???

You want the wheel to spin forward if you have the tranny in a forward gear, so it would be clockwise as you stand beside the wheel looking across the tractor.

Hi Ron
I suppose you have a 3 speed. 2nd would be a good gear or you can pull it off in high, just go a little faster. You want hurt anything by pulling it. With a 1/4 mile dirt road you have a perfect place. If everything is right, you should not have to pull it very far. Half throttle and choke a little. Good Luck ////CRS////
