I AM TRYING TO TIME MY 2N DISTRIBUTOR. WHEN I GET THE 1/4" FROM THE BOLT HOLE THE MANUAL SAYS THE POINTS SHHOULD BE STARTING TO OPEN. THEY ARE NOT. I TRIED LOOSENING THE SCREW AND ADJUSTING IT, BUT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH ADJUSTMENT TO GET IT TO THE START TO OPEN POINT. I'M STUCK.

Sounds like the springs on the centrifugal weights are worn down. Remove the point plate and check to see if when the weights will snap back when rotated to the max position.
Happy Motoring

had the same problem on my 8n front mount distributor. found that the bushing on the tiiming plate was worn enough to let the rotor shaft wobble. replaced all the bushings for $2.00 and fixed the problem. i used a local bearing supply house for the parts. the large rotor shaft bushing is an odd size though, 27/32 i.d. you can get a 13/16 i.d and hone it out. good luck.
