Wondering if anyone would know if a Dearborn 14-3 or 14-3 side-mount sickle highway mower made for an 8N will fit on a 9N/2N, or conversely, if a Ferguson 25P-EO or 26P-EO will fit on an 8N?

Have found two good Dearborn mowers, but not sure they'll work on my current 9N, and would like to know if I need to keep looking for a Ferguson to fit the 9N.

In looking at the parts manuals, they look very similar as to the mounting brackets, but thought I'd ask the BB experts. TIA for info!

Hi Randy.

Not without some customizing on your part. Parts of it mount to the running board mounts on 8N's. The frame mounts to transmission housing bolts on both sides and I don't know whether they are the same on 9/2 N's. You need position control to raise it over obstructions while mowing, and I'm not sure if Zane's Thang will overcome this or not. It looks to me like the 14-3 and 14-4 (5'/6' cutter) were introduced specifically for the 8N.

Will the seller let you take it on approval, so you can check it out and see if it will mount up, and return it if it won't? I've got an Assembly & Operating Instructions manual for it, but it's really in rough shape. Readable, but lot's of grease and dirt stains on the pages. A previous owner used the heck out of it. I can scan it and email it to you. The N-Newsletter Archives also has it, and you may be able to get a more readable copy from them for copying and mailing costs.

Hope this helps..... ..... Ed

Ed,

Thanks for the input on this topic. You confirmed my fears - while the mounting brackets seemed close to the 9N/2N transmission housings, there were other connection points which seemed specific to the 8N only.

I'll have to either purchase this unit and upgrade to an 8N, or pass it by in favor of a Ferguson unit for my current 9N.

Thanks for the pointer on the manuals - some reprints in hand would be a good idea. N-Newsletter will get a check from me shortly.

I have a 14-4 side mount mower on an 8N tractor. I am in need of the entire sickle bar assembly. Do you have any information about where I can locate such an item? According to my Dearborn parts manual the main bar is the same part number on the 14-2 and the 14-4.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
