I have an 8N that discharges when running above idle. I changed over to a 12 volt system to correct the problem, but it still shows discharge. All of the wiring has been replaced except for the wire running from the starter button to the solenoid. The Amp meter is new also. Could this be an improper ground problem?

You say it shows a discharge when running above
Idle? Does it show a charge when running at Idle?
If that is the case, I would suppect that the new
amp meter has the wires reversed on it.

I think the cutout relay in the voltage regulator maybe set wrong. If the cutout relay is out of adjustment the battery will discharge at idle. Please look in the article archives.
