There is a 1946 2N up for auction on E-Bay. It has 2 "high arc" radius rods that show up on the picture. Is it possible to hit something hard enough to bend them like this ? Or are there other causes ?

the answer is "yes." And you can straiten them with a 9 lb hammer if you know how. Make yourself a trough with two two by fours nailed against a two by two and lay the rods edge up. Frail away with great deliberation and you most likely will straighten them. Dont strike the rod in the same place twice too often or you will seriously dent them. Vary your hit locations. I have straigtened some which were bowed from side to side by simply laying them down on concrete and hitting properly. Another way to straighten vertical bowes is the use a healthy hydraulic press with the rod held firmly in place. Good luck.
