Would anyone have answers to these questions please!!

1.) What performance changes occur when you run straight pipe vs. one with the muffler, on these 8N tractors. I've seen it in some of the articles but they never mention why they do it. I can only guess it is to annoy the neighbors.Your thoughts please?

2.) What bracket holds the side mounted distributor in place once you have the timing set?

3.) Why did /do they offer both a 6 blade and a four blade fan for these engines? Which is better?

1) mufflers by design and function, obstruct the free flow of hot expanding exhaust gases. If'n you have a straight pipe instead of a muffler, you would improve volumetric efficency and generate more horsepower.

2) p/n 7HA-12273, Arm Assy, (dist timing), personally I'd call it a pinch clamp.

3) 6 blades would move more air, which might be very desirable in a tropical climate. (which by the way, the 6 blade fan is often called the tropical fan).

Don't forget there is also a "pusher" fan to keep from blowing hot air back over the tractor operator, kinda a primitive tractor airconditioner. (grin)

Did I pass?..... ...Dell

Okely-dokely. I guess you need to leave the muffler intact, because there is no easy place to mount a seat belt and head restraint to protect against the sudden g-forces of all that increased horsepower when using straight pipes. ;^)

All seriousness aside, the N is such a finely-engineered machine that you need to use only OEM NOS Ford mufflers to maintain the precise back-pressure so as not to upset the delicate atmospheric balance of the combustion process.

Dell, I respect and appreciate your responses to all matters on this site. Fact is, I've never read anything of yours on this site that I wouldn't call Gospel. Thank you !!!!

It wasn't a test and I apologize if the questions sounded juvenile. I guess when I feel I have such great friends on this board, it kind of brings out those Q? that you wouldn't normally ask, for fear of sounding ...well you. know.
