Well, The 8N that I had posted a message about is now in my driveway. I took all of about 5 min. to have it started. I tinkered with it a little today and got it to run on it's own only to find that the exhaust manifold is badly cracked just before the rear exhaust port. One thing that I found kind of odd is that it appears to have the later model stearing box but the serial number (8N35913) indicates it was made in late 1947. I'll post some pictures in a day or so. The sheet metal is fairly had, it looks like someting fell on it years ago and has been filled with bondo. Can anyone tell me if ther is a way to find the original place of sale and buyer?

Thanks for your help

Phil

My 206992 had an old style steering box until it went bad. I put the newer style on and it was simple to do, other than pulling the hood by myself. Have fun with your new N.

A running 8n for less than a grand. You did good.I to have a early model 8n.I know you will enjoy fixing it up.It is easy to get parts and parts are reasonable. There are lots of N's with bondo,so thats no problem.Keep us posted its always good to hear about the improvement of an N. Could it be that the engine was replaced? It happens often. I have a '47 also but the serial number was a bugger to read. The engine code verifies that it was made in 1947. Unless the tractor has been in the family from the beginning, or you can confirm the previous owners, it is hard to trace its life.
