Dell the black smutt on the outside of the block is where the knocking is coming from.

O yeh whats this centrifical mechanism you are talking about? points or what?

? Should there be a gasket where the gov. bolts to the motor?
By the way do you guy's ever sleep?
I sure appreicate all the help on this site.

Robert..... ...If'n ya gotts bad ears like me, the putty-putt of an exhaust leak with the black sooty smuge could sound like valves knocking.

Distributor has a centrifical advance mechanism mounted underneath the plate that the ignition points are mounted on. Get out your I&T FO-4 and study it.

p/n 9N6022, gasket, governor to timing gear cover.
