Just a tip for those that have problems with rusty/binding brush holders. I had my 8N generator rebuilt a year or more ago. While I had the hood off doing rewiring and all the stuff I could get to, I let it rain on the tractor. Later I found the brush holders rusty and not allowing the brushes to move freely. I finally fixed this yesterday by removing the end cap and dissassembling the brush/holder parts.
I cleaned the scale & rust on the inside of the holders w a dremel and coated with anti seize.
Wiped the anti seize down leaving a thin coat to retard rust and avoid contamination. The generator once again puts out strong consistant amps and one more thing is fixed! One more tip. When putting the gen back together
I used anti seize on the bolts. If you put just a bit on the end of the bolt it makes it 1000% easier to see when the bolt is lined up with the threads for starting.
