I have an 8N (49)and have removed the manifold found bad gaskets. I have also removed the valve cover and was wondering what I should look for as far as problems with valves. Is it normal for antifreeze to come out of the block at the hole farthest from the front when you remove the manifold. This would be the hole closest to the driver. There are 4 holes on the manifold, hole on the very left. I have a pinging coming from the cyclinder where the manifold gasket was leaking could this be my problem as far as the pinging?

Thank You Robert 8N#245040

Robert..... ...yes, it is normal for antifreeze to come out any manifold hole when you take the stud out. Normally, the stud stays in the engine block. The stud should be puckied with stud pucky and torqued to 35 ft/lbs bottoming the stud shoulder against the block. The 7/16-20 5/8 hex brass intake manifold nuts should be torqued to 27 ft/lbs.

With my bad hearing, a hole in the exhaust gaskets could very sound like a ping, but normally I just turn the volume off..... ..Dell (grin)
