I have a new short block(side mount dist.)and want to know what I should do first to get the oil pressure up without doing damage?

Do these tractors have to be running before pressure exists or can they be turned over enough without spark to show pressure on the gage.

What to do??? Please help!!!

Rad,

When I rebuilt my engine, I left the plug out and turned it over until oil pressure showed on the gauge. I then out the plugs in and started it.

Rad, I packed my oil pump with heavy lubricant during rebuild assembly and filled my oil filter cannister with oil and let it sit overnight. The next day I fired it up and had oil pressure right away. HTH Rick(Ga)
