At the hunting camp this weekend I was trying to disc up food plots for deer with my '49 8N. The lift worked very well until the tractor would get hot. It would take about 1 and 1/2 hours to get to the point that the lift would barely lift the disc. I have replaced the ram cylinder with a NAA
piston and o-ring and the lift holds up for about 45 min. so I believe that this is not the problem.
This summer I removed the pump and cleaned about an inch of "tarry goo" from inside the pump and in the tractor casing. At the same time I replaced the cam follower pin and adjusted the lift with Zane's jig set-up. I also replaced the relief valve. My problem at the camp was also aggravated by the lift sticking at the top of the range twice. I removed the inspection plate with the dip stick in it and moved the control rod to release the lift. While the plate was off and with the disc still on I tried to raise the disc and observed oil swirling behind the pump. There was very little oil coming down from the top, just a few drops. My question is have I blown the relief valve, or do you think that the pump is worn out. Sorry for the long post, I was trying
to provide as much info as possible. Thank you for your replies. I have always recieved the best advice from the people of this board and could'nt have gotten this old girl to this point without it. Please pray for the families of this dastardly attack. We buried my best friends Dad today. It is a day we will never forget. Thanks again.

If the lift will stay up for 45 minutes after tne engine has been shut down the relief valve is not the problem I don't think. It may be that the fit between the pump plungers and the bore of the plungers is too worn to force the oil up when it gets hot. If this is the case the pump chambers will have to be replaced.

I am assuming that you are using 90W oil in the hydraulics. The 134 or any lighter oil will exagerate the problems of a worn lift system. Especiall when it gets hot and the oil thins out.
