My mother has a Ford tractor that she would like to sell. First question is: How do you determine which model this tractor is? 2N, 6N, 8N?? It is a 1947 Ford tractor, all original, a good solid runner, original paint. What would a reasonable sale price be on this type of tractor?? One person told her don't accept anything under $3,000 Would this be reasonable??

Any information would be appreciated!!

keeping it simple...

4 speed transmission is an 8N

3 speed transmission is a 2N

there is no 6N

The quickest way to determine what it is, is to find the serial number. If it is indeed a 1947 it could be one of the last 2Ns or it could be one of the very first 8Ns. Here's a site to help you figure it out.

If it's as nice as you say with original paint, etc, then $3,000 is not out of line. If someone just wants a good worker and doesn't care about looks or originality, he'll pass on your tractor and go buy a beater for $2000 or less. Someone wanting good solid original will probably be more inclined to look at it at that price. May come down to how many implements you're willing to throw in.
