I have the opportunity to buy a Fordson Major with a loader for a couple hundred bucks. She hasn't run in 3 years and needs a clutch. The loader is really tempting me! Anyone messed with these? I'm asking you N guys as not to get the bias of the Fordson crowd. Thanks!

We have owned and worked a Fordson Major Diesel from about 1967 to 1990. The tractor ran fine and is good on fuel. The only trouble was a failure in the differential. It was repaired by replacing the whole rear half of the tractor with a used one. I have just resurected this tractor after it sat for 11 years. It pull-started immediately and ran perfectly again. Parts are expensive and hard to find, but the tractors are good in my humble opinion.

For a couple of hundred $$, I'd buy it in heartbeat. If nothing else, you could part it out, as parts for these bad boys are a little harder to find than N-series parts.

Check your parts availability before you leap. As in any aquisition, we are always looking for value. Value of course differs from cheap or inexpensive in that it takes in the whole ownership experience. Perhaps talk to current owners.
