I was wondering about using a slip on my 5' king kutter? Right now it has a bolt on it where the pto shaft mounts to the hog. What do you recommend?

Thanks Robert

Make sure it is a grade 2 bolt. Cheaper the better. It should break. My 2N would travel several feet after I pushed in the clutch. Reverse was the worse. I have a 60" Mono rotary mower and it has big heavy blades. That heavy mower made an ORC very important. Lucky I didn't get hurt or damage something before I got an ORC on it. Don't get off the tractor until the blades stop moving is my advise.

Definately use an ORC. I've been thinking of using a slip clutch on my hog. If you hit something solid - log, rock or heavy brush it is possible to twist your PTO shaft. This is not fun to repair. If you know you won't encounter any obstacles it should'nt be a problem. If you have an 8N you should avoid 2nd gear when hoggin. If you have a 9N or 2N 2nd gear is not a problem but you may want to look into a "Zane Thang".

Do you already have an over-running coupler (ORC) mounted on the PTO at the tractor? If you do, you probably don't need the slip clutch too. I do have a neighbor that has both on his. I think it is because the bush hog came with it. When you want to stop the tractor and push in the clutch, does the tractor stop going forward? If it does stop, then you are okay, if not, get the ORC.
