My local tractor guy is now selling TISCO replacement paint for the 9/2 and 8N's. These are supposed to be the CORRECT, ORIGINAL paint codes, "lost" for decades, now finally reproduced by an authorized Ford supplier. I've got some and it does seem to be the most accurate paint I've ever seen. There are three colors: a dark gray for the 9/2N's, and the lighter gray and red for the 8's. The 8N gray is darker than what I've bought as "Ford Gray" in the past, and the 9/2 gray is REAL dark. Anyone else heard about this?

Any one that says paint codes were lost for decades is full of it clear to the gills. They remained in paint books for near 30 years! Many people have the tractor paint code and sample sheets from the 50's and I would not be surprised if you found one in some shops files! I have the original Du Pont code sheet covering the 8N as well as many other tractors, also an update sheet to include the newer paint that came out for 1958 Ford models. I have converted the 8N color codes to Centari and they are extremely close to the original colors, however one can never duplicate precisely a color from one paint to another as each paint has its own characteristics and colors will vary in differing light conditions.

Go to John Smith's site, the Centari red code he has posted for years is extremly close to the original color, close as one could ever get. I have not sampled His gray so can't comment on it.

Bottom line, no secret codes just more talk.

You're treading on dangerous ground. You're not allowed to think about such things as correct and original...any old thing is supposed to be OK.

Yes, please post a picture and part numbers etc. for the "replacement paint" --- I will gladly post it on my site --- under the renovation and repair section. (under construction)

In the ford tractor restoration guide, they have a picture of a ford N oil filter canister that was found on the stock shelves of a ford tractor dealer still in the box. The color was a dark blueish grey - very surprising considering seeing all the light grey restore 9/2Ns out there. Post a picture if you can!
