I put in a new starter complete. Once I tighten the 2 bolts it won't start. If I leave them loose almost to the point of no contact for electrical contact it will start. Did I happen to turn gear when installing or do I have a faulty starter? Thnaks in advance for all the help. Paul

take the starter back out put to nuts on the end of the two bolts that run through the starter. tighten theses nut pretty snug. hook the starter up to a battery to see if it is still binding out of the tractor. if the starter works fine then the motor is ok. if it drags or is hard to turn out of the tractor then take it back because something like the brushes or the adjustment on the armature are incorrect. if it works fine outside the tractor. then it could be your bendix, ring gear, or a bent starter shaft. if you have the old spring type bendix then you could be installing it wrong and putting the bendix in a bind. but since you say it works when you loosen the bolts i would say its something inside the starte thats adjusted to close and it causing it to overload the starter moter.
