My vane pump was starting to go, and I searched the archives for any info. I couldn't decide whether to rebuild vane pump or put on piston pump. A dealer quoted me prices of $795 and $2000, respectively. When searching the archives, I happened across a thread which mentioned replacing the vane pump with a gear pump. I contacted llamas, who posted the thread. He put me in touch with John "The Old Tractor Guy" out in Colorado. I bought a rebuilt gear pump and manifold from him for $300 plus shipping, and it works just great. Bolts on right where the old vane pump comes off-no sweat. So, for those who have this problem in the future, I would recommend this fix. It saved big bucks and works like a champ. John "the Old Tractor Guy". can be contacted at jjbow@worldnet.att.net. Thanks to both he and llamas for the help, and thanks to this board for the contact.

I'm no expert, but was thinking some more about your problem. If the air fix didn't work, you may have the wrong o-rings. If it's sucking air, it won't prime for you either. I went right to NH and got the o-rings. Where the manifold connects to the pump, they are flat "washer-type" O-rings. Where the manifold connects to the sump, they are "rounded" O-rings. This worked for me. Hope it helps-let me know.

Go to the small hole where the hydraulic dipstick goes in. Take your air compressor and put a little (maybe 5 to 10 lbs) of air into the hole and the hydraulics should come right up. Mine chattered for a day or so, til the air went out of the lines, but it works perfect now. Hope this helps. Let me know.
