My timing gear is getting noisy and I'd like to replace it. I'm going to put a new governor on, and thought I'd do both at the same time. My question is can the timing gear be replaced without removing the whole camshaft? From the manual it looks like it, but I was just wondering if anyone else has tackled this, and any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

My 641 had a press on but supposedly the earlier ones were bolt on. If you loosen the bolts for the frontend and slide forward a little you should be able to get the timing cover off. Front oil pan bolts go into the timing cover. Replace both gears.
