Today I went to the tractor shed and was about to get on the 8n when I looked to the back of the shed (Closed Metal Carport) I saw a small black snake about 3 ft. long.It had a slender yellow stripe down the center of his back.I went to get somthing to remove him and could not find him when I got back. All I could think of was the spitting cobra that escaped from another town about 60 miles east of me.I got the termite and bug spray and sprayed completely around the inside and outside walls of the building. Now what if the snake shows up and sticks his head out from behind the dash while I am bushogging.Would this be unerving or what? By the way I think it was a King snake. We use to see a lot of them, or it could be a Chicken snake.Non poisonious I think(hope)Comments? Have a good week guys.

Snakes won't generally hurt you, but they'll make you hurt yourself. I don't think the bug spray will have much effect. Burning sulfur will usually drive snakes away. Any way, it was probably a garter snake. A King snake won't have the stripe down the center of his back. A chicken snake(yellow rat snake) is more greenish-black and the stripes are more subtle. The only poisonous snakes we have are rattlesnakes, copperheads, coral snakes(red touching yellow), and cottonmouths. I had a 3' chicken snake wrapped around the handrail of my inside staircase last week. I gently removed him and put him back in the yard to eat more mice.
