I have seen posts here over the last year or so regarding repairing steering wheels. I just wondered if anyone has tried to fix one up using Bondo, and if so, had any success?
Thanks, Rick

I've repaired several steering wheels with cracked or chipped covering. The best product I've come to use is plumbers two part (epoxy)puddy which comes in a cigar shape tube, it may come in other forms too. It's like plasterseen puddy gray outside with white inside core. You break off a piece and nettle the two parts in you hand until well mixed and soft, then place and mold it onto the steering part to repair. It hardens within about 5 mins. after which you can file and sand, and then paint.

It's far better then Bondo and no mess. Also it can be use for other repair work. Believe me, it worked great on my steering wheels, almost can't tell the difference from the original material.

What kind of paint did you use on the steering wheel?

Hey Stu, I'm not too far from you, I'm in Milton. I Know where I can get new replacement steering wheels for about 70 bucks, but I want to keep mine. Also I don't know if you know of him, but Don Watson is very close to you and he has a whole boneyard full of Ford N stuff.

Rick, I used plastic metal in thin layers building it up. then filed and sanded to shape. Then I rubber coated it with the stuff that you dip plier handles into. It has lasted about 5 years now and still looks good and doesnt leave your hands stained black.
