Bush-hoggin the other day I noticed the fuel was boiling/bubbling in the tank. Any suggestions here
I do not have a thermostat on the 8N.
The fan is a puller.

Thanks Robert with very hot gas.

Hi Robert,
check 2 things :
1 - Obviously the radiator must be clean outside and inside to have good heat exchange. The metal must be in good condition and free of oil deposits.

2 - Verify ignition timing. Late ignition timing will overheat an overloaded engine. regards, Dave

When I was a kid, I often checked the gas on the roll on our 9N and 8Ns. I noticed that on hot days and hard pulling that the gas would be boiling. Never seemed to hurt anything, but if gas splashed on the manifold I could have been seriously burned as a neighbor kid experienced 20 years later. You might want to install a temp guage, though to make sure that you are not overheating. And, yes your radiator may be clogged up after 50 years.

I have a six blade puller fan and have never even come close to boiling gas even in 90 degree weather and doing heavy hoggin for hours.

I have however seen a TO20 Ferguson that had this same trouble all summer. He had a 4 blade puller fan I believe. I know it aint pretty or 'correct' but we cured his problem with a sheet of 'tin foil' taped to the underside of the tank during the summer...
