I have heard that the PTO on the 8N cant be shut off while the tractor is running and in gear, like, you start the tractor, start to drive, and the PTO automatically starts spinning and cant be shut off until the tractor is out of gear/ cut off. Is this true?

No. Just pull the lever forward and it will disengage the PTO while the tractor is running. It will simultaneously disengage the hydraulic pump, so it may be a little unwieldy or even dangerous if using something like a bush-hog. To engage, just put the clutch in and move the lever backward. If the tractor is rolling it will probably grind.

I have a '47 8N. The PTO is not engaged unless I engage it by the lever under the left side of the seat. All you have to do is push in the clutch to disengage it.

Now my question would be.. Is there any way to disengage the PTO seperate from the hydralics to operate the 3pt? Because these both operate at the same time.

The same coupling powers the shaft that runs the pump and PTO. The only way to separate the two systems would be to use a different kind of pump or devise a separate drive system for the PTO. They make a hydraulic PTO drive that could possibly be rigged by cutting the regular shaft and finding a way to apply hydraulic power to the PTO drive so the hydraulics would run all the time off the drive shaft and the PTO could be controlled by an on/off/bypass valve.

Yer zackly right. But he didn't ask about that option, did he? There's a really nice 900 on ebay right now with PS/LL/LPTO. I wonder if he'd take an 8N kit and a non-running Super A in trade?
