Hi Mike, Yes, I have been agonizing over this ever since I dropped a valve rotator down the oil galley and had to take the pan off. I found quite the little parts collection in the bottom of that pan. (spare parts) but anyhow, it would be a disaster to have to drop the crank after tippy toeing around the engine with it still attached. Once you get into the crank, you get into the might as wells with the clutch etc, you know. Anyway, I think I will heed the advice of the majority and "donna muck around" I guess that if the crank is not dropped, then the top halves of the seals dont know the pan is gone. I would recommend that you do the bottoms though because they will dry out while the pan is off. Just curious, where your pan is cracked. Mine is busted right where it connects to the front axle support. They brazed it and it seems to be OK but was toying with the idea of replacing it. Do you have any idea what one would cost and where I could get it? Joe
