I have a 1944 2N. Everything I read says they were all gray, however, this one is red except for the sheet meta which is gray. Did some of the 2N's come with red paint, or do people paint them that color because they like the gray and red?
Thanks,
Art Fuller

I recently stripped and repainted my 47 2N. From the serial number, it was one of the last produced. There was solid, original gray under the red, but I suspect that it was one of the dealer repainted 2N's. I can't confirm this, but it is just a suspicion given that there is only one very old coat of red over the gray. When I repainted mine, I kept the red/gray combo just because I like it. However, I like the originality of the solid gray. Mine is nice, but I could never call it a restoration because of the colors.

Hi Art,most people now just paint them red & gray cause they look better to them.Yes the original color for 2N was close to a machinery or battleship grey.In 1948 when the 8N came out the dealer's painted the 2N to look like the 8N's so they would sell.Hope this help's.Jay
