Can anyone tell me the proper set-up on the top link? I use a blade and a brush hog and I assume the setting (adjustable screw) is different for each.

Am I correct in that the setting of the top link can also affect the stability of the hydraulic pump to keep the plow at a height set by the control lever and not have undesirable lifting?

The top link is important to proper implement use.
It does have input to the hydraulic system through the internal linkage though not directly connected to the pump. When properly adjusted and
functioning it is the input for the draft control.
It also can change the "bite" angle for a blade or a rake or other implements as you desire or is most efficient. I believe my brush hog owners manual says to have the front of the mower about 1 inch higher than the rear.

Ron, I like to use a different toplink for each piece of equipment I have, they are relatively cheap and can save you some time when you are a little pressed. My sickle mower has a "sweet spot", a point that it cuts real well and doesn't dig into the ground. If I ran a plow I would want to do the same, once you get it adjusted correctly you can forget about it. Most of the time you set it close to what you want then dial it in by trial and error. Keep the front of the bushhog slightly lower than the rear. I like to run my box blade level, that way I don't take too big of a bite but can still drag the soil on the ground if I want. The top link ain't got nothing to do with the hydraulic pump.

Think about this and you will then remember it. Put your mind down there where the cutting is taking place. The reason why you set the front of the rotary cutter lower than the back is so you don't have to cut the stuff twice. Are you still thinkin? Did you get it? A side benefit of this is anything that gets launched into orbit has more of a tendency to go out the back. The worst thing to ever get to me while mowing was a plain 'ol rubber BF Goodrich tire, that is, till that hornet came along and popped me on the nose. L8R----Fred OH
