Oil pump inlet tube misaligned

I put the oil pump inlet tube (8N6615) on the pump
last night and when I put the oil pan on the inlet
was misaligned about 2" from the drain hole. The new oil pan drain plug with a screen will not fit.
I did not bend the inlet tube and I think it has been like that. Should I leave as is and cut
off the screen or try to rebend the tube to make
it align with the plug?
Thanks.
Alex

Somebody has previously tried to repair a loose joint on the pick up tube and it ended up misaligned. You should buy a new pick up tube to avoid a ruined engine. If Ford engineers couldn't fix the tube to the cover plate so that it would last forever then it's for sure nobody else can under the shade tree.

The screen in the drain plug does help hold the tube to prevent it moving and thus coming loose where it is silver soldered.

I personally will try to fix just about anything but not that pick up tube. Been there, done that!

The screen acts as a brace for the oil tube, helps to dampan vibrations, I have found that if you leave the screen off the tube will eventually break somewhere near the pump.

I would remove the screen and keep the oil clean. Happy Motoring

Alex,

The oil pump pick up tube is silver soldered in the the oil pump body. You'll have to drop the oil pan in order to correct the problem. It is by no means an easy job getting the pick-up tube alinged. Maybe somebody else will come along with a good suggestion on how to do that. I did mine by trial an error. Good luck. Keith
