I just had the engine rebuit and when I tried to bushhog it would almost not pull itself. How do I check the RPMs to make sure it is reaching proper RPMs when throttle is wide open. Also how can I test the engine to find out why the power is low. Thanks Roger

Other things to check:
- Assure carb is CLEAN and adjusted correctly.

- Assure govenor is operating and is adjusted correctly. Could have bent linkage and/or levers during rebuild. Check for worn ends / weak springs.

- Assure that items for ignition system tuning are correct and not wore out. Points gapped right(could have slipped), timing adjust, etc.

- Worn distributor parts

Good Luck

Check that your plug wires are in the correct order. These old Ns will run fine on olny 2 cylinders but will not have any power. Since you said it was just rebuilt, I would suspect crossed wires. The order is 1243 (or follow the numbers on the distributor cap if front mount dist.).

A wet and dry compression check might point to something regarding low power.

There are aftermarket tachometers from Northern Hydraulics that measure RPM with a lead from a sparkplug wire.
