I recently purchased a set of ARPS 1/2 tracks and am having them sandblasted and repaired. I want to paint the tracks black. What is the best product/manufacturer to go with? I am NOT restoring the tracks to a showroom finish. They will be put to work all winter long. What about a bedliner material? I don't know?

Amberflint is the toughest paint you can buy,if you can still find it that is?This paint once applied and fully cured out, takes 80 grit on a D.A. sander to even scuff it up!When you get a chip in it,you really have a small hole the thickness of the paint. Not something you would really want to put on anything you may have to repaint one day!I'd stick with an acrylic enamel, this is relatively easy to work with and hold's up pretty good.Hope this help's.Jay 2N

POR15 is available in black. Although it is used to stop rust for chassis and fenders, it could work for what you need it to do. From what I've seen in pickup restoration forums, it adhears very well. Don't get it on you, the stuff stays on for weeks.

You could use a catalyzed polyester finish, powder coat or epoxy or Imron. It becomes a matter of cost/benefit ratio. Cheap paint applied more often may provide more protection than tough paint applied once at high cost.

For a relatively simple and inexpensive paint job I would use a good dark colored metal primer and a good semi gloss "farm store" tractor paint. It is a synthetic enamel and is thinned and cleaned up with mineral spirits. You can brush it on right from the can or it is easily thinned with mineral spirits for a paint gun.
For the best protection use an etching primer and a catalyzed enamel. But this is MUCH more expensive and takes a little more experience.

Anything "cheap". Nothing I ever used stood up to the abuse of Mud, Rocks, Dirt. I use a Case 500 Tera-track quite often and found the best way to protect them was to wash it down good, when it will be sitting for a while, and paint them with a protection coating of cheap rattle can paint. At a buck a can, $5 goes a long way.
