What Hydraulic oil should I use in my 47 8N?
Local TSC store only carries generic 10w20 hydraulic oil. Is this acceptable?

Thanks,
Paul 47 8N

At the TSC here, they have the heavy oil in one or 5 gal black container- blue label which specifies that is for 1939-1953 Ford Tractors (or something similar) I think I paid about $28 for 5gal container. Ask 'em.

I have a 1952 8N ford with distributor on side.

My hydraulic lift is starting to sink as soon as I
stop. What dou you think causes this?
Thanks, Bem

Go to your nearest Ford/New Holland dealer and get the 134D trans/hydraulic fluid that they carry. It will come in a big 5 gallon bucket. That is what you need.

Nooooo ooooo oo... Do not use hydraulic oil. The transmission and rear end do not like it...Use either of the following 80/90, 90 gear oil, or Ford specification 134D....

How does the 134D work in the winter?

Of the 3 I mentioned, 134D is probably the best for cold climate. I run 90W Gear Oil because my lift is a bit leaky with 134D. The heavier oil will now keep my Mower up indefinately. The downside is that in the winter time, it has to heat up a little before it will lift..because it is like syrup..
