I am a mechanic, but would like some opinions. I have a 1944 2n that i have installed front bearing spindle seals on. When i tighten down on the bearings to where they should be, two things happen. First the seal bindes and makes the wheel VERY hard to turn. Two the bearings can not really be tightened properly because i can not turn the wheel. If i grab the wheel at 12 o'clock and pull in and out it has play. I have split the differance, but i do not like it! Remember that the seal doesn't seal on the spindle behind the inner bearing. It seal on the spindle at 90 degrees to the wheel. Thanks.

First ensure that the seal is seated properly in back of the hub. When tightening the spindle nut, the pressure should be on the bearings. These wheel bearings do not take any preload. I would torque them to 30' lbs and then back off so as to align with the first cotter key hole. Then there should be no play in the bearings. Under this condition there should be no play and if the seal is seated properly all should be ok..
Perhaps I do not understand your problem correctly.
Happy motoring
