I have a stud hole in the block that is stripped out and I have bought Helicoil and tap. I concerned though because, if I drill out a stud hole for manifold stud, I may get some metal shavings into the water jacket?? I can't think of any way to prevent this and I am wondering how much of a problem I may create for myself if I would get some metal into the water circulation system. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Chuck

Chuck, I am not a fan of heli-coils, particlarly when they are used for a stud going into the water jacket.. Can be very, very difficult to get a complete seal. Maybe you should go down to your freindly NAPA store and see if they can get you a combination 1/2 inch coarse thread and 7/16 inch fine thread stud to replace your stripped stud. Drill and tap the block for the 1/2 stud. Maybe even a 1/2 - 1/2 inch stud and drill the manifold hole out a little. Return the helicoil kit to purchase my suggestion.

Good Luck, Jim

maybe tape over any openings to catch chips they can even getaway from magnitic drills. if your drilling into the water jacket clear out the hole
with air to blow out all that you can , not being formilur with the area your asking about this is all I can think of. the grease may work on the tap
but then again take it slow and clear it out several times and regrease to catch as much as possible. cast iron comes out as you drill in a fine powder because it's so pourous so it may be easier than you think.

Chuck..... ...I'd magnitize the drill and the tap and use a very heavy greese to "trap" any loose shavings..... ...Dell
