I have an 8N which I left the key on in the ignition switch for a few weeks. It won't crank now. The battery has a good charge currently, still I tried to boost it and it still will not turn over. The starter button switch checks out according to my ohm meter. I replaced the actual starter with a rebuilt from New Holland a 3 or 4 months ago but the solenoid is old as well as the key switch. I pull started it with my truck using a chain and it ran well for 3 hours and I parked it. Still won't crank. Any ideas, on what the next step would be and also, how would you check a solenoid?

Put it into neutral, and ground the terminal in back of the starter relay. You should at least hear a click when you do that... If that does not help, take a pair of uninsulated pliers and touch the handles to both sides of the starter relay. A jumper cable could also be used for this...If you still do not get anything, check both cables from your battery as they could be corroded or loose.
Happy motoring

Thanks, I appreciate that part about having it in neutral ever since the day I was taking the hood off and my wrench hit accidentally hit the battery terminal. I was working low and looking at a big tractor tire coming right at me! Thankfully the ignition was off or I would have been the discussion of a tractor accident on this board! From now on all work is done in neutral, key out and wheels chocked. I'll try your suggestion and see what happens.

My 8N has got to be in neutral before it will crank over. Maybe a PO has changed out the starter button to a different one?
