Thanks for all your help with the manifold stud problem. I tapped the hole using gear grease and I feel like I got all the metal shavings out of the hole. Replaced the stud and used locktite to put it in. The stud is now stuck in the block and it no longer leaks! UNFORTUNEATLY, when I reasembled and put water in the radiator, I still had a leak. I pulled the manifold off and poured more water in and I have a small hole in the block at the top and slightly inside the rear exhaust port. I sat in the driveway, smoked a cigarette, and yelled out a few of my favorite choice words. Now what? The hole is not just a crack. Probably a quarter to a half inch break. Anyone think I can have this welded or am I now faced with the decision of, do I buy a new block?
It has been such a long project and I was so close! Aarrggg.

I just breezed through the archives and JB weld seems to be the product of choice. Below is a link describing how someone used it.

Also, welding cast iron is chancey, as I understand it - I seem to recal someone posting a picture of repairing a crack using a series of bolts drilled and tapped into the block along side each other, then ground off flush with the surface of the block. If it is the water jacket that is affected, I think a simple repair would be prefered.
