Ok. The balls in my 3 point, where the implement attaches, are rusted and kinda jagged near the openings, and need to be replaced. How do I get them out, and new ones in?

68Mag, just for the fun of it, try cruisin' over to a farm and home supply store like Buchheit's or Orshlen's etc. Take a walk down the aisle where the farm stuff is. They'll have a lot of stuff you may recognize and will need for your machine. There will be pins, mufflers, carb rebuild kits, decals, anti-sway bars, lots of stuff for 3 point hitches, mostly always category 1. Your local Ford-New Holland dealer will have the goodies too.

Well, I sort of do something like that, and my dad says I'm developing a 'bad habit'. There's a guy who own his own parts shop, and sells all kinds of stuff for tractors. I've been going over there a lot and we just talk for a while and I learn a lot about what I need to replace. lol

Rusty 3-point balls are kinda normal. What ever you do, donna be fer greese'n 'em. Grease and/or oil attracts dirt and turns into grinding compound. The 3-point balls are designed to be un-lubed..... ....Dell

You can't so sell your tractor and stop asking so many stupid questions !
LOL

Only kidding ,only kidding (-:

The 2 correct ways to fix the balls is replace the whole lower arm or buy "Repair ends", you cut your old ones off and weld these on. Another trick you can try, you can make saw cut(s) into the outer socket, put it in your vise, close it up and weld it, this is something I heard about here, never done it. Hope this helps

Hey, now! lol. Well, since they dont come out, and I really dont want to cut anything off until I absolutely have to, I guess they'll stay for a few years.

And as far as stupid questions- I'll be buying an operators manual, and service manual on friday. And an N Series Originality Guide, if I have any money left lol.

I think Dave was just funnin' with you.
Keep the questions coming. Seriously!
These challenge us all and keep us sharp.
One day, you will be able to provide tips from your experience and help the next new N-ers on this board.

Getting the manuals is a good thing. Also, you can do a search on your topics in the archives. There is a wealth of info in there.

PS: I will get those battery pics to you soon!

Thanks. I've read through page 11 in the archives. I cant wait to get the operators manual, because I have to re- wire my N, and I want to see what all the switches should do. Whats sad is there are 3 un- used switches, and you crank the tractor by touching 2 wires together and twisting them so they stay!

3 unused switches on your tractor? The three switches I know of are the key switch, starter switch and the light switch.

The three manuals that I find most helpful are: Operators manual I&T Shop Manual FO-4 Master Parts Catalog

With the people on this board and these three books, I can do most anything. I am not a mechanic, but this board has taught me a lot about it.
