Sticking Clutch Question

I used to have a car that had a propensity to get a small amount of oil on the clutch plates. The "experts" advised driving the car up to a telephone pole until the front bumper "kissed" the post and then slipping the clutch several times for a short period - - say 10 or 15 seconds. This would "sand" the oil away. I can see that if moisture was a problem in the clutch area it would also heat it up and evaporate the moisture away and "sand" any early rust off the plates too. Can anybody comment on this as a possible cure for sticking clutches ?

My uncle used to put his 1937 Ford car against the front cement steps on the house and slip the clutch. This would cure the chattering for quite some time. When it started doing it again he went back to the steps. Didn't seem to hurt the longevity of the clutch and it worked.

Years ago when we had oil on the clutch problem we would take the inspection cover off. Depress the clutch and spray a carbon tet fire extingusher in there. It worked for a while. I don't believe you can buy carbon tet anymore. If I remember rightly it was determined the fumes destroyed the white blood corpusles. Chlorathane nu might work if it is still available. Its just best to fix the oil leaking rear seal. Dave <*)))><

Tim, not to steal Zane's thunder but I recall him answering awile back that to get by to pull the starter and put some talcum powder in through the hole and it will dry out the clutch to help solve the problem, hope I got this right. Good luck Greg NE

Let's see: Slip the clutch, create lots of heat, make the oil on the clutch turn into a burned, sticky goo, put lots of stress on the pressure plate and throw out bearing, possibly warp the friction disk, and possibly put on some damage to tractor front end unless you are extremely careful and lucky. Sounds like a plan to me ! My $.02
