Would it be possible to mount an additional leveling box and fork assy to the left side of the 3 pt hitch on a '51 8N? I was trying to get more tilt capacity for my rear blade. Would there be any other benefits or would there be shortcomings? Thanks to all!

I have two leveling boxes on my 51 8N, and love it. There is a mark (groove)on the shaft, which you could use to get things level, by ligning them both up to the factory marks, or just run them both up to the top. Not that hard to level really. I just measured one of mine, and the factory mark on the threaded shaft is 6-1/4" down from the bottom of the gear housing. This was placed there so you could find where "level" is. Just turn the shaft in or out until the mark is flush with the top of the yoke, or bottom threaded part, and you have your implement level. You more than likely will have to clean the old grease and or rust off the shaft to find the groove, but it's there. Hope this helps, and is a little clearer than mud!!!

Mr.Brestlin

I would think you could mount an additional leveling arm on the left side without any difficulty. Keeping all the attachments level could be a chore but if you mark level on both arms it would be easier. The level arm for the 8n is designed to be mounted on the right and if you mount it on the left there is a grove on the bottom that attaches to the lower arm that won't be right but I don't think this will effect it to much. However I've never done it and this is just my thoughts.
