Please Help!!
I have an 8n 1950. I rebuilt her this summer (with your help) Now After letting her sit for about 4 weeks she won't start, she trys, sputs and sputters but will not start. I checked the spark is there, gas is running out of the carb drain plug when I remove it..... Not much left huh
Ideas???

Thanks in advance
Bill

Bill, Often overlooked is the small screen filter at the intake elbow on the carb. You may have some flow, enough to fill the bowl and fool you when you check the bottom drain. You may even have enough to make the plugs look "wet". But not enough to run under power. Other possibilities are some thing stuck in a needle valve. Run your main and pilot screws out and in, they are easy to readjust once you get her going. Then check and clean your sediment bowl regularly. Good Luck...PJ

You may well have gas at the carb and not at the plugs.
Try starting her with the choke pulled for a few revolutions and then pull one or more plugs to see if they are wet.
If not, I am betting that you have some valves that are stuck 'up' and not allowing the piston to suck the gas from the carb.
Pull the valve inspection plates and have someone turn her over with the key off and see if all the valves are going uppy downy without any hang time...

If you had it running recently then timming and such are probably correct. My guess is that you aren't getting gas as you suspect. Or it could be flooding. Probably a float problem. Maybe the needle valve is stuck and you aren't getting any gas into the float for the intake vacume to suck up from through the carb ports. Or the float could be either sinking letting in too much gas, or a piece of dirt or rust could be stuck in the needle valve preventing it from seating. This allows gas to flow past the needle valve and flood the carb with to much gas.

Good luck and let me know how you make out.

Sitting is bad for any tractor - or any piece of equipment.

If you can "pull-off" the tractor to start, do it.

Since you have some spark (may not be adequate, due to corrosion of the points) it will start and the points will "heal" themselves.

If this starting method isn't practical, remove the air intake, and spray starting ether directly into the carburetor (with the choke open and the fuel lever at full throttle). Do this with the fuel turned-off at the tank. The tractor should start and run for a few seconds. Turn the fuel on and repeat - it should start and run.
