Both my dad and I have 8N's in the barn. Mine is run at least once a week for at least 30-45 minutes. My dad doesn't run his hardly at all. In order to keep his in shape I have changed the oil, checked the hydraulic fluid and radiator fluid, greased it. I start it up for about 15-20 minutes every other week or so.

Is there anything else I should do...I have heard tales of clutch problems and such if you don't use the N too much.

...and...NO, the N isn't for sale :-) it has a nice home in my barn.

Thanks.

Sal.

Block the clutch and use stabil. The FNH dealer in Ankeny, IA has about 15 or so N's on his lot, and each one has the clutch blocked down. When I bought mine from him, he highly recommended it as did his mechanics. Reading some of the archives will give you an appreciation of this ounce of prevention...

Tell ya what Sal, bring that baby over to my house for the winter and I'll store it for ya, and I'll also plow my driveway with it all winter to keep everything "Nice and free" I might even treat it to a nice ice cold "Coors light" once a week or so !

Ok..... it was just a thought (-:

Yep, with dave#1's barn and lean 2, he'll store your tractor like he stores his..... ..outside in the weather w/o tarp.

LOL!!

Another thing to do is to put gas treatment in the gas such as "sea foam, or stabil". This is very helpful in preventing the gas from turning to varnish and pluging up the carb and fouling the plugs when you try to start it in the future.
Run motor after the gas treatment is dispersed throughout the gas. This assures it is run through the carb and float. I have been doing this with all my motors that I run infrequently and I have so much better luck starting them and the plugs lasting longer.

Good luck and let me know how you do.

Depress the clutch pedal and place a block there to hold it depressed, this will prevent the clutch disc from rusting or sticking to the flywheel.

I would leave the clutch the way it is. Never had a clutch stick in 40 years, and that includes tractors stored for over 2 years. Driving the tractor once from out of storage will take that tiny bit of rust off.
