I have a frozen cluth on my 8N. I have read in the archives that if I jack up one tire and get it going in 4th gear while against a tree with the bupuer it will break lose by quickly letting the jack down. How do I override the safety lock out to get it in 4th? I can get it into 1st wil that work? I have had the clutch pedal tied down for a week and it stilll has not broken lose. Thanks, Pokey

The way to get it started if fourth gear is to put the transmission in fourth and then short across the starter button wire to the transmission cover. Grounding out this wire will engage the starter solenoid. It won't be as easy to start as it would if it were out of gear because you will be turning the back wheel with the starter but it can be done.

Be sure that the tractor is up agaist something solid like your wife's Cad back bumper etc. :O)
Or a big tree etc. (Be sure to have the video camera on) :O)

Another way to break loose a stuck clutch disc is to hook up the bush hog and do some work in the biggest stuff you can find with the pedal tied down. The shock of the blades hitting stumps etc will break it loose. Best to have it in first gear when starting it in gear by shorting out the solenoid wire at the switch. Have it pointed in a direction so you don't run over the petunias etc.

Be careful!

Hi Pokey,
Had the same problem. Couldn't get it into 4th, not that I think it would have helped anyway. I tried everything else and finally split her. The clutch plate was rusted solid to the flywheel. It took some pounding to even break it lose after it was off tractor. Good luck. john
