I bought a new data plate. The old one was trashed. The screw heads are off but the screws are still in the metal. How do I get them out? Also, the new screws look like they are self-tapping. Do I hammer them in,punch them in or what?

Your help is appreciated.

The "screws" are really a type of rivet. Take a punch or nail and punch the old ones out and tap the new ones in.

I had the same problem with my '41 and the aluminum dash. The holes that the rivets go into don't go all the way thru, and trying to drill the steel rivet out in the aluminum really buggered things up.

I haven't done it yet, but I got an idea.
Purchased a new plate and rivets from Don. Sure do wish they were the brass stamped plate! Anyways, I'm thinking about grinding the rivets down to the head on the backside. Rough up the paint on the dash where the plate is supposed to go, then epoxy it on. Take the rivet heads and glue them into place.

think it'll work?
