In the Master Parts catalog on page 72 there is shown a expansion plug part no. 353454-S 1-3/16 inch cuped disc. This is for the 1939-50 engine. If you do not have The Master Parts Catalog or the I&T FO4 Shop manual I strongly recomend you get them. Available from sponsors of this forum. Look in Manuals above on this page. The plug is installed convex side out. Then hammered lightly in the center. this causes the disc to expand and fill the hole tight.

You will have to dig the old expansion plug (Frashure plug) as best as you can. Be careful not to damage the block. Any good auto parts store will have new ones. Some people recomend using sealer some don't. Ask at the parts store what they recomend. Dave <*)))><

The soft plug shoud be replaced with a hard one, sort of, but kind of not. Then again, maybe some time later or right now. O.K. If you wand to do, but if you don't then do.

i went to the parts store and the one they say is the right one is the right dia. but its slightly convexed . not like a cup type in a auto engine. i measured the roughly cast block in the center of the hole and got .090. they didnt have a rubber expandable in that size. just 1inch. so i drilled the hole to one inch and put a rubber one in it. the organial type just wouldnt stay in the hole. no way to drive it in cause it would bottom out on the block. ya just got to be here i think. thanks
