Does anyone have a grader blade under their tractor?

I'm thinking of adding a grader blade to my 8N. That is, a blade mounted under the tractor not behind it.

Does anyone have this, or is it a silly idea? Any information would be appreciated.

I don't, but it looks interesting. Link below is past post from Ed Gooding (Belly Blade)

Thanks for the link Errin.

That looks like quite the piece of equipment - more than I need.

But, it doesn't look like it allows you to change the angle of the blade.

It's a good idea when compared to trying to do a decent job of grading with a back blade. It's pretty common to see Farmall Super A's with a makeshift blade mounted on the front(belly) cultivator drawbars. Haven't seen too many Fords with a mid-mount grader. Probably because it would be a pain to devise a decent mounting system that would allow the blade to pivot, swing and pitch to the different angles needed to distribute the dirt or gravel correctly. I hate grading with a rear-mount blade because the short wheelbase of the N tends to multiply the washboard effect.

"the short wheelbase of the N tends to multiply the washboard effect"....been doing driveway grading and noticed that washboard thing you described. Try as I have, aint been able to smooth it out. The washboard is maybe 3-4 inches tall. Don't really know its there except when the headlights shine accross them. Do I "need more pratice" grading or is there something im doing wrong?? All I have is a rear blade, no box blade.

Occasionally change the angle of your blade and play with the pitch. Don’t grade with a “dry” blade. Keep a healthy amount of dirt in it. To finish, reverse your blade and drag it backwards

Have you tried grading backwards? That way the wheels roll over the freshly graded portion of the drive instead of on the un-graded portion. This helps me to avoid the washboarding effect.

Yes i did but on my last pass, i went forward. I think this last pass was what caused it.

Thanks much for the tip. Can't wait to go home & try it. ....don t. .....
