Is there any way to stop fluid from leaking around the arms of the gear box. There are a lot of posts in the archives about 8N steering, but as I understand they are different. You wouldn't want to add gear lube if it could get in the transmission and hydralics.I enjoy the board. Keep the N's roling.

I agree with these fellers. I did this job. While your in there replacing the easy part (rope seals), check the wear on the sector gears. You'll want to make sure those gears and the pinion are ok. Also replace the 1/2 bushings on each side of the sector gear arms. Also check for sector gear backlash. You'll want that adjusted properly with thrust washers. Had to make some of those myself. Lot of bull work, so you want it right before you button is up.

Have fun, Tyman

I will be diving into this repair myself very soon.I will tear it down to see what all need's to be replaced, bearing's etc. before I order the part's.The only way to stop the leak is to replace the gasket's.But like I said you will want to replace anything that look's worn or wore out.As Dell would say..."FO-4 shop manual, cheap getcha one".It will help you out alot.HTH, Jay 2N
