Hi all.

I have just finished tearing down my 8N for a complete rebuild. It is my first N and I am not sure which pistons to order. 3 or 4 Rings. Which is better and why? I will be replacing all the sleeves and valves, oil pump etc.

Thanks in advance for your help, and I am sure I will have more questions before I am finished.

Wish me luck
Dan.

Thank you all for the advice. It is unanimous, 3 rings are the way to go. So that's what I will do.

Thanks again
8N-Dan.

I went with the 3 ring pistons on mine also. Like roperboy, my FNH dealer recommended them to me and I trust what they tell me (they have been great so far).

Dan..... ..go with the 3-rings. Modern 3-ring pistons are more efficent vs 4-ring. The modern oil control ring design is much more effective than the 2 oil rings of the 4-ring design. Modern ring metallurgy is also much better than the original rings too. Good luck on your rebuild..... ..Dell
