Ford 8N with 12 volt conversion. On the alternator the BAT terminal and P2 terminal are not connected. P2 terminal is not connected to anything. What problems would this cause if any? Battery remains charged.

Thanks.

If it is a one wire alternator they do not connect to anything. When you first start the tractor do you have to throttle up to get the alternator to begin charging? If so it is a one wire system.

If it has the P1 and P2 terminal, it is by definition not a one-wire alternator.

It will not hurt anything that the P2 terminal is not connected to anything. This is the "sense" terminal, which tells the regulator what battery voltage is. It's present for some of the auto applications which the alternator was originally designed for. However, the regulator gets essentially the same reference through the "bat" terminal, which is why it's working right for you. It's common practice to hook the P2 terminal directly to the "bat" terminal, right there at the alternator, just to ensure that they are at the same potential. However, as you have found, it usually makes no difference.
