Yesterday morning, Dad went to town, and got an air compressor, gas powered, for 75 bucks. Great day, huh? At about one in the afternoon, we load up to go get my 8N. We got there, put in the battery and gas, hit the starter and she fired right up. Then the trouble began. After a few seconds of running, it started smoking, bad. No biggie, I knew that would happen. Well, the guy we bought it from starts driving it up onto the trailer, and WHAM! The hitch popped off the ball on the truck, sending the trailer tounge right into the truck's tailgate. That really sucked, we backed it off, fixed the hitch, put blocks under the back of the trailer, and loaded it up, no problem. We got it home, and unloaded it. We were walking around it and looking, when I noticed a plug wire had come off. Stuck it back on the distributor, ran a little better, but still smoked. As I'm driving up our 3 1/2 acre front yard, I hear a *pop* and then *hiiisssss sssss ss*. I pull up near dad and the truck, and cut it off, because I know something's wrong. Dad bent down, looked it over, and I heard him mutter *oh wow.* Turns out I have blown either

a) the top radiator hose, or

b) the radiator busted.

Oh well, I guess I just have to hope it's only a hose. I think I have a Sherman Step Up, instead of a combo, because with the Sherman shifter in the forward position, it was a good bit faster than in the rear position. All in all, it's been an interesting day, but at least my 8N has made it home...I just need to get it out of the front yard...Hmmm, maybe tommorrow...

Hehehe. Darn, Dell. I realy wanted to sleep in the yard with it tonight...it's only gonna get bout 25 degrees...oh wel...lol. Actually, I'm homeschooled, and I'm about 2 weeks ahead in my work, so I'll have a little time to play with it. But now Dad is thinking about taking it and having someone rebuilding it for me. I really doubt I can afford that. If the kit is 448, then I'm probably looking at 800+ to have it done. Oh well, I guess if he wont help I'll do it myself. It shouldnt be too hard, with all the great advice here on the forum, and an IT shop manual.

Hallaluja!!! I for 1 am so glad to hear you got it home(:>)-<-< I know how you must feel, but have to imagine that feeling at a young age since I was 45 before my 1st N. Hope you get to rebuild without too much trouble. Don't get frustrated and quit. Hang in there! DON TX

Hi 68mag, how old are you? Im 14 and homeschooled also. I'm looking for an old Ford 9N,2N,or8N or something to restore too. Where do you live? Where did you find your tractor? Was it in your local paper or did you get it off line? Good luck with your tractor.
