I bought a battery box for my 9N from a tractor graveyard and was told the 8N and 9N battery box was the same. The 8N battery box is in the way of the starter button. How did the 9N battery box mount? Pictures would sure be great.
I posted a similar note a few hours ago. If it appears, sorry for the dup.

I have some rusty old pieces that may be the same as your photo.
Where does this mount?
Does the air cleaner bolt to it?
If not where does the air cleaner mount to?

Paul, it mounts on the upper steering housing with two bolts. Yes, the air cleaner does mount to this tray on the right side if you are sitting on the seat. Tool box mounts on the left side from seat. Hope this helps.

Those boxes are not the same. Each N-series box is made a little bit different from each other. The 9N/2N box mounts on the left hand side of the battery tray. The 8N box mounts near the back of the dash and is accessed through the fuel door.

The battery box I bought did not have a top and mounted flush on the top of the body using 2 bolts from the body. On my 9N the box would sit right on top of the starter button. It is 3 sided, one side free to slide in the battery.
It also has mounting locations for the air cleaner.
What is the battery tray?
